By late October or early November, the region receives heavy snowfall, and the road connecting Lahaul and Spiti becomes completely blocked for the winter season. Temperature drop extremely low, the route freezes, and driving or riding becomes unsafe. For this reason, the administration officially closes the pass for all vehicles.

In December, the entire stretch remains covered under deep snow, and only the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) teams are allowed for maintenance or emergency work.
